Did you recognize that the NW 7.31 at SAP TechEd wasn’t an AS ABAP system? It contained an additional software component SAP_BS_FND. Of course SAP TechEd demosystem is often something special and SAP will improve the software until it the ramp up. But here we had a usage type of an ABAP application server that is not supported by SAP.
